In this unique training, counselors new to the profession as well as seasoned practitioners and supervisors will engage in a dynamic learning experience. Participants will explore how viewing supervision as a foundation can strengthen and expand the processes of supervision, the practice of counseling and the personal growth of the supervisee and the supervisor. Dr. Mullen will introduce, define and demonstrate numerous tools and techniques, from a wide variety of theoretical perspectives that can all be used to expand the didactic framework of traditional supervision. Through a combination of instructive and interactive activities, participants will gain an understanding of the multiple and complex roles of the counseling supervisor.

Objectives:

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • 1.      Describe the benefits, for both supervisee and supervisor, of expanding the didactic framework of traditional supervision.
  • 2.      Identify a minimum of three ways supervision promotes personal & professional growth for both supervisors and supervisees.
  • 3.      Create a plan for deconstructing challenges that emerge in their own work and/or in that of the counselors they supervise.
