CALLING ON ALL MEMBERS!

The LCPCM Board of Directors has five officers and two At-Large members. Our secretary, Lauren Massa has resigned her officer position as of the end of this month. LCPCM appreciates the time we have had with her. As a result, however, we are asking for an LCPCM member to volunteer to serve as Acting-Secretary until our next election. If you are enthusiastic about LCPCM and want to participate in a meaningful way, you are qualified. In addition, Molly Thorn has resigned her position as Membership Chair. As you know, we are so grateful for her many years of service on the Board as Secretary, President-Elect, President, and Past-President. The Board meets monthly the 4th Friday of each month on Zoom from 10-12 noon. Contact mylcpcm@gmail.com for more information.

    Emotional Freedom Techniques

    for Anxiety and Stress

    Presented by Elena Khazanova, LCPC

Learn how to encourage rapid relief from psychological pain, stress, and anxiety in clients. Release unproductive thinking patterns, and generate thoughts that support well-being. Watch your clients get immediate results and allow yourself to be refreshed and renewed as you practice right along with them.

This leading edge self-healing method is easy to learn, quick and simple to do, highly portable, and immediately effective.

EFT is based on the Chinese energy meridian points (same as acupuncture) and involves lightly tapping the points as you focus on a particular feeling, sensation, or thought.

EFT is now widely used to treat psychological illness, including anxiety, depression and PTSD. It has been studied extensively and it meets APA’s criteria to be considered evidence-based treatment.

This experiential program consists of a 2-hour introduction to the technique. It includes the protocol for stress and anxiety that can be immediately integrated into your work with clients.

    NAVIGATING SOCIAL MEDIA ETHICS

Presented by Rob Reinhardt, LCMHC, M.Ed, NCC

Social Media is an integral part of life for most of our clients as well as the businesses and other entities that they interact with. For counselors, social media can facilitate connecting with new clients as well as collaborating with peers. However, unlike other most other businesses, the guarantee of privacy and confidentiality are integral to our work. Where other businesses can solicit reviews from happy customers, we are prohibited. While other professionals can freely “talk shop” online, we must exercise caution to protect our clients' privacy. There are still many ways that counselors, can benefit from the use of social media, however, we much ensure that we comply with federal law (HIPAA) and codes of ethics. This presentation will discuss the pitfalls of discussing clients online, reviews and testimonials, and the general use of social media. We will also identify positive, productive ways that these tools can be engaged.

    Intended Audience

All mental health professionals who work directly with clients, have an Internet presence, and wish to comply with HIPAA and their Code of Ethics.

    Goals

    • Participants will understand the reasons how our Codes of Ethics and HIPAA apply to the use of social media.
    • Participants will understand the PIT principle, regarding accessibility of information on the Internet.
    • Participants will understand the pitfalls of online reviews and testimonials and some ways to avoid them
    • Participants will understand the dangers of discussing clients online and ways to do so without endangering client privacy.
    • Participants will understand the importance of a social media policy (required by the ACA Code of Ethics)
